Professional Experience

The University of Louisiana at Monroe

Public Affairs Office, Monroe, LA

August 1995 to present

Coordinator of Publications:
Project Manager for key University publications including Res Scholaris, Impact, Drumbeat, the Report of Philanthropy, the Annual Fund print collateral, ULM's viewbook and other recruitment materials, etc. For each publication, I oversee the process from storyboarding to pre-press. Although I write for these publications, in the past I have also contributed photographs and some graphic design. Other responsibilities include proofreading/approval of University publications not produced in the Office of Public Affairs; consulting with faculty/staff with their publications; working with various departments to promote their programs, students, faculty, alums, events, etc., through our publications; participating in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of various University publicity/promotion/awareness programs. Since the Office of Public Affairs utilizes principles of integrated marketing, I also facilitate programs that involve the various University constituents with the Coordinator of Media Relations, and work with the Director of Public Affairs on marketing initiatives.

The University of Louisiana at Monroe

Department of Mass Communications, Monroe, LA

August 1998 to present

Adjunct Faculty:
Taught (and currently teaching) Journalism 302 (Introduction to Public Relations) and Journalism 310 (Public Relations Writing and Planning). Journalism 302 is an introductory course designed to familiarize students with the basic concepts and principles of public relations. Through discussion, reading, exercises, and speakers from the industry, the student will attain a practical, working knowledge and understanding of the central concepts of public relations. Journalism 314 teaches the mechanics, process, and necessary skills in public relations writing. Other goals of the class are to teach event planning and the role creativity plays in the career of a pr practitioner. Practical guidelines for using written, spoken, and visual techniques to reach selected audiences and the use of the latest technology are also critical and learned through hands-on experiences.

Northeast Louisiana Arts Council

Monroe, LA

November 1994-August 1995

Arts-in-Education Coordinator:
Facilitated the NLAC's 1994-95 Arts-in-Education series by scheduling nationally-based musical and theatrical programs in Ouachita parish public schools. Responsibilities included scheduling, media relations, arranging transportation and accommodations. Secondary responsibilities included working with the media to promote other NLAC events, grantwriting, and special events planning. Assumed responsibility for writing and layout of NLAC newsletter Art in Action. Upon leaving the NLAC for the University, and in keeping with the University's mission of community service, I continued to produce this publication until August 1997, evolving it from a newsletter to a magazine format.
