Today, the fields of electronic and film media are changing almost as fast as books and journals can record the transition. The age of telecommunications has arrived - encompassing a multitude of new media and demanding the integration of both theory and practice in these media.

Studies in radio, television, and film at the University of Louisiana at Monroe teach not only the industry as it exists today, but also look toward the rapid evolution of the electronic and film media.

The Department or Mass Communications offers a Bachelor of Arts in Radio, Television, and Film, with a choice of three specializations: broadcast news, management and marketing, and production. Advanced study is provided by an interdisciplinary program, in Louisiana's only School of Communication, leading to the Master of Arts in Communication.

ULM's program in radio, television, and film is unique in Louisiana. The RTVF Broadcast News specialization is noted for its depth and comprehensiveness. The RTVF Management and Marketing specialization is the only one of its kind in the state. The scope of the RTVF Production specialization - with its emphasis in audio, video, and film production - makes it unique in north Louisiana.

A major advantage of ULM's Mass Communications program is its proximity and ready access to regional media entities. The ULM service area has no less than twenty radio stations, six full-power television stations, as well as a plethora of cable, corporate video, public relations, advertising, and independent production entities. The Department's relationships with these organizations benefits students pursuing internships, as well as alumni seeking employment.

Numerous co-curricular activities in the department serve as transitional links between the world of study and the world of work. Students in the Department are involved in the programming of the University's two FM radio stations, KEDM and KXUL, as well as in a variety of audio, video and film projects for organizations across the ULM campus and throughout the region.
